SUMMARY:Workshop: Addressing 6G Cybersecurity and Privacy challenges (IEEE CAMAD 2024)
DESCRIPTION:Cybersecurity and Privacy are of utmost importance in beyond-5G and future 6G network. 6G concepts will continue evolving towards release 21+ 3GPP\, also leveraging developments from European SNS JU initiative. To address cybersecurity challenges in advance is paramount while system is designed. Key trends of the 6G landscape\, in addition to their obvious technical and business value\, as expected\, are accompanied with a drastic increase in the attack surface compared to legacy cellular network infrastructures. Such trends which introduce additional security implications are: \n\n\n\n\nDisaggregation and cloud-native paradigm\, expanding to the enhanced-SBA with full network virtualization. Disaggregation with a ‘cloud-native’ approach from RAN to Edge to Core\, also continuing the virtualization trends (e.g. NFV/SDN)\n\n\n\nMulti-vendor and multi-stakeholder models introduce more complexity to manage in a multidomain environment. Zero touch security management over multidomain and disaggregated networks.\n\n\n\nNetwork openness and exposure APIs for 3rd party applications. \n\n\n\nSecure\, trusted and privacy-preserving environment for supporting the next generation of trustworthy continuum computing 6G services.\n\n\n\nMore “intelligent network”\, AI adoption for both aspects; i) Smart network management and more autonomous (including secure lifecycle management) and ii) Security threat analysis and reaction (including policies and applying mitigation actions). Trustworthy in networks.\n\n\n\nSmooth combination of public MNOs with other access technologies with special attention to NPN (private networks)\n\n\n\n Edge-cloud continuum adding the so-called extreme edge (Robots\, IoT\, etc) to the Management & Orchestration (control plane) scope. The 6G Network is expected to integrate heterogeneous resources with the inclusion of far-edge and extensive Edge nodes usage. \n\n\n\n\nRegardless on impressive new 6G connectivity KPIs (in terms of bandwidth\, latency\, reliability\, energy efficiency)\, the 6G system design and its future operation should comply highest standards of cybersecurity and privacy as a critical shared infrastructure. Moreover\, in the 6G multi-actor pluralistic environment\, privacy is pivotal\, not only for the end users\, but also for all involved stakeholders; and it needs to be considered as a key requirement in all technologies of the network stack\, including security mechanisms. \n\n\n\nThe use and application of AI and network digital twins (DTs) for the identification\, analysis and mitigation of attacks is a key part of the proposed workshop discussion. The workshop will introduce latest technical advances and concepts around cybersecurity in 6G addressed within three SNS JU projects (HORSE\, PRIVATEER and RIGOROUS). From flagship Hexa-X-II project\, the architectural aspects and their impact on 6G security will be introduced together with some other key topics such as physical layer security and quantum safe 6G infrastructure. Moreover\, the security and privacy aspects are particularly discussed with respect to the most highlighted 6G use case families identified in Hexa-X-II project. The concept of key value indicators (KVIs) such as social and environmental sustainability and their role in defining new 6G end-to-end system on trustworthy infrastructure will be presented as the latest updates to the research community. \n\n\n\nThis workshop aims at bringing together top researchers in both areas of cybersecurity and 6G network under the umbrella of the EU SNS JU projects to share their ideas and research results\, and hence create an opportunity for synergy with other projects acting a acts as central discussion hub for European research. In this workshop\, special focus will be given novel approaches and strategies to deal with cybersecurity issues. \n\n\n\nA round table with 4 invited experts in the second part of the workshop. We are requesting a 5′ position pitch (in advance) about challenges and key questions posed to participants (as indicated below). In addition\, the new SNS phase-2 projects addressing security & privacy topics are also invited to introduce their initial approach. The overall goal of the workshop is to discuss common technical roadmaps\, necessary actions to impact WGs and precisely SDOs\, and inter-project opportunities for collaboration as well. \n\n\n\nWorkshop structure\n\n\n\nThe workshop is originally planned as a FULL DAY workshop and it will be structured as follows in 4 sessions of 1h30min each: \n\n\n\n11.00 – 12.30 Session 1 \n\n\n\nKeynote – Future 6G and cybersecurity challenges.   Diego Lopez (Telefonica) \n\n\n\nTechnical presentations– Should we sacrifice privacy for security?Maria Christopoulou (NCSRDemokritos from PRIVATEER)– Using Network Digital Twins to detect\, study and mitigate network attacksAntonio Pastor (Telefonica\, from HORSE)– AI-driven Automated Security Orchestration\, Trust Management\, and deploymentJorge Bernal (University of Murcia from RIGOROUS) – ePEM: an End-to-End Proactive Secure Connectivity Manager for 6G Orchestrator SolutionsAlessandro Carrega (UNIGE\, Italy) \n\n\n\nLunch Break \n\n\n\n14.00 – 15.30 Session 2 \n\n\n\nKeynote – The use of AI in cybersecurity threat detection.   Orazio Toscano (Ericsson). \n\n\n\nTechnical panel of 6G cybersecurity  topicsRound table with interactive discussion. SUMMARY:Second Workshop on beyond current 5G Architecture for 6G Service and International cooperation
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is hosted by the EEE Future Networks World Forum in Dubai\, UAE. \n\n\n\nWhile the ongoing rollout of 5G will enable robust new solutions for a wide range of challenges\, we are already on the way towards the next paradigm shift that will take us to the 6G era\, giving rise to challenges beyond what even 5G can meet. New architecture enablers and vision are needed to make reality 6G as a trusted network platform for a ubiquitous cyber-physical continuum\, with an updated set of capabilities and emerging technologies trends to develop these capabilities. The workshop will like to stress the discussion about entirely new capability dimensions offering functionality beyond communication\, such as spatio-temporal services and compute-AI services\, fully automated management boosting future networks through convergence of compute and communication. \n\n\n\nTo make this vision a reality\, a shift towards full network and service management and operation automation is necessary. However\, a major challenge facing full automation is the protection of the network and system assets (i.e.\, services\, data and network infrastructure) against potential cybersecurity risks introduced by the unprecedented evolving 5G threat landscape. Indeed\, the risk of full automation is the ability to replicate a small isolated error or attack broadly and rapidly\, putting the entire critical ecosystem (multi-party/tenant/technologies) into peril. The workshop is aimed at discussing the emerging 5G enablers towards rethinking of 6G in a holistic manner to understand the Challenges\, Opportunities &Standardization Imperatives and define the way forward and immediate next steps to ensure ubiquitous adoption of 6G globally. \n\n\n\nThis workshop is supported by EU SNS project RIGOUROUS\, HORSE and 6GCLOUD\, and 6GSOC by Spanish INCIBE through EUNG PRTR funds.

SUMMARY:IEEE Global Communications Conference
DESCRIPTION:IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM) is one of the IEEE Communications Society’s two flagship conferences dedicated to driving innovation in nearly every aspect of communications. Each year\, more than 3000 scientific researchers and their management submit proposals for program sessions to be held at the annual conference. After extensive peer review\, the best of the proposals are selected for the conference program\, which includes technical papers\, tutorials\, workshops and industry sessions designed specifically to advance technologies\, systems and infrastructure that are continuing to reshape the world and provide all users with access to an unprecedented spectrum of high-speed\, seamless and cost-effective global telecommunications services.2023 IEEE Globecom: The path towards 6G: Standardization and Research Vision Workshop \n\n\n\nCALL FOR PAPERS\n\n\n\nWorkshop URL: https://globecom2023.ieee-globecom.org/workshop/ws13-path-towards-6g-standardization-and-research-visionSUBMIT NOW: https://edas.info/N31214 \n\n\n\n5G is still on its way being deployed across the world\, but it is already the time for academia and industry to shift their attention to beyond 5G or the sixth generation (6G) systems\, in order to satisfy the future demands for information and communications technology (ICT) in 2030. Indeed\, the main drivers towards 6G are on three drivers: i) the explosive growth of mobile traffic\, ii) disruptive use cases\, and iii) novel usage scenarios. In general\, 6G is expected to fully exploit the revolutionary concepts introduced by 5G\, especially the softwarization and virtualization features of the 5G Service Based Architecture\, and enable increased autonomicity\, security and adaptation to the service requirements. \n\n\n\nThe 5G standardization has been progressing at an astonishingly rapid phase\, where 3GPP Release 15 and Release 16 set the foundations of the 5G system\, while Release 17 provides enhancements and optimizations to enable support for further features and use cases. In parallel to 5G standardization efforts\, the 5G Public-Private-Partnership (5G PPP) in the scope of the European Framework for Research and Innovation is currently at its peak with more than 40 projects running concurrently. At the same time\, the European networking research community started the Smart Networks and Service programme that focuses on 5G advanced and 6G\, supported by the 6G-Industry Association. 6G-IA represents the private side in both the 5G Public Private Partnership (5G-PPP) and the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU). In the 5G-PPP and SNS JU\, the European Commission represents the public side. 6G-IA brings together a global industry community of telecoms & digital actors\, such as operators\, manufacturers\, research institutes\, universities\, verticals\, SMEs and ICT associations. \n\n\n\nThe goal of this workshop is twofold. On the one hand\, it will focus on highlighting the key architectural innovations required for future 6G mobile and wireless networks. On the other hand\, the latest generation of 6G projects in Europe and other worldwide efforts. Nevertheless\, the workshop aims at enabling discussion and identify areas of collaboration among existing ongoing activities worldwide. This will be enabled by providing social networking opportunities through the introduction of poster sessions and panels with related projects.  \n\n\n\nThe topics of interest of the workshop include (but are not limited by):• AI-driven network management• AI/ML empowered RAN Intelligent optimization• Dynamic dependability and high resilience• Time-sensitive wireless/mobile networks• High-resolution localisation• E2E Network Slicing and Deep Slicing to support diverse verticals• Open Testbeds and facilities to assess new technology enablers• Network Architecture Evolution from 5G to 6G• 6G architectural enablers addressing e.g. important KPIs such as energy efficiency• Industry landscape and Standardization efforts for 6G• Testbeds/Experimentation to validate or support 6G solutions• 3GPP and ETSI standardization activities related to 6G \n\n\n\nImportant dates:• Paper submission deadline: July 15\, 2023 –> SUBMIT NOW: https://edas.info/N31214• Authors notification deadline: Sept. 1\, 2023• Camera ready due: October 1\, 2023 \n\n\n\nThe workshop is technically co-sponsored by the 6G SNS JU HORSE and 6Green projects\, PNRR RESTART and 6G-IA.
